background
Connection was founded in 1995. The need it was designed to fill was for support which would float from person to person and float in intensity, so that vulnerable people would be able to survive and thrive in their own accommodation. This was identified for a wide range of people with a combination of homelessness, mental health, addiction and other issues, now broadly covered under the term “social exclusion”. People identified that they needed the support when the accommodation broke down and workers in hostels as well as housing officers with large patches, supported the creation of Connection to deliver floating support.
It is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee. In 1995, Connection operated in Oxford City only, with a turnover of just £100, 000. In 2008 the turnover is nearer £1.5 million. Connection is funded by Supporting People; Drug and Alcohol Action Teams; Mental Health Statutory Funding; local authorities; Housing Associations and a number of smaller grants.
The service is delivered by Support Workers and Senior Support Workers, with 5 Team Leaders operating out of area specific offices and 2 Operations Managers, one covering Bucks and one in Oxfordshire. There is a team of administration staff. Overall responsibility for the service is with Connection’s Chief Executive, Mark Thompson.
The strategy is determined by the Board, with an annual thinking process involving wide input. If you want to download a copy of our current Annual Report click here.
